I couldn’t stay completely away from the holiday stuff this year, and today’s gem is a quick, upbeat delight that should put a smile on the face of every Grinch.
Ana Gasteyer is probably best know for having been a Saturday Night Live cast member from 1996 to 2002. She played one of the NPR hosts on the infamous Schweddy Balls sketch, as well as some other long-running characters. She’s also been on Broadway and starred in a couple of sitcoms such as the underrated American Auto.
And she’s a singer. In October 2019 she released an album of holiday music, titled Sugar & Booze. Sample lyrics from the bouncy title track: “Kris Kringle and his reindeer friends/They endlessly amuse/But the best part of the holidays is/Sugar and booze.”
The record is about half new and half traditional songs, and her voice keeps it moving. Today I wanted to share “The Merriest,” a song of general (and specific) well-wishing:
I like it.
